I’m referring to both the weather and the competition in this year’s MGA season long points race. We’re now 3 tournaments in and again despite some weather challenges on the second day of the Member/Member, I’m very pleased with all aspects of the tournaments so far. Participation has been solid so far and the number of new members joining the MGA has exceeded my expectations. Even with our lower overall membership, our tournament participation is close to what it was last year for the tournaments.
The board has been working each year to make our Member/Member events the premiere tournaments of the year and I think we saw some incremental improvements this year. We chose to play everyone from blue-white tees, we upped the ante with more participation/prize points and the pari-mutuel went was executed the best I’ve seen since we began. A big THANK YOU to Rob Thornton who works very hard to make this successful and thank you to Mike Fiondella and Mitch Flanagan who assist all weekend. We got a little lucky with the hard stuff on Sunday holding off until everyone was done, but even with cart path only it seemed everyone had a great time all weekend long. While all these tournaments require some level of strategy, I find the shambles and scrambles make me think the most and who wants to be thinking too much out there! We had another great turnout and finally had some solid weather from beginning to end. I’d like to share some discussion points from our last board meeting.
See you on the course! Scott Anklowitz

March Madness is in full swing, "the tradition unlike any other on CBS" is right around the corner, and we have our first MGA event in the books: it's golf season baby! Even with the threat of poor weather all week we still had a solid turnout for the Irish Scramble. Of course we couldn't hold an Irish event without some weather trouble, but after a wet morning it turned out to be a fun day of golf and post-round stories about every shot we hit out there. Plus, the whiskey drinks on hole 11 didn't hurt either. It was great to meet some new MGA members that seem to be fitting right in!
You can now use the website to see where you’re stacking up in the point standings. It’s a long season and for those that are new to the MGA, it only takes a few good showings in tournaments to be in the running at the close of the season. And trust me, participation points matter! The next event is our Spring Member-Member and will be here quickly so make sure you grab a partner and sign-up. We have worked to make this our premiere event with a Pari-Mutual betting social Friday night that allows non-participants to join in the fun! One of the goals every year is transparency with our membership so I'd like to share some of the highlights from our March MGA board meeting.
We also had a very productive meeting with Chris Wright (General Manager) and David Dietzel (Director of Agronomy) discussing the status of the club and planned improvements to the course. If you’d like more information about this discussion, please reach out to me directly but we plan to keep them a consistent part of our discussions this part. Lastly, be sure to check out the website for new “What’s in my Bag” pictures and get to know your fellow MGA members! See you on the course! Scott |
